Central State Hospital Museum

 Learn the rich history of this c. 1825 Milledgeville Federal-style house  as one of the earliest inns and taverns in the old capital, headquarters for the Whig party, family home during the Civil War, and renowned restaurant until it’s rescue from demolition in 1966.

In partnership with Seeking Asylum LLC., this history filled walking tour  will take you through the grounds of the former Georgia Lunatic Asylum while a guide shares chilling stories from the hospital and mental health treatment from years past.

War Comes to the Capital

Travel back to the Civil War era with costumed interpreters who demonstrate home-front challenges women faced as the war reached the capital city. This interactive program offers hands-on experiences and engaging storytelling aligned with GA Standards.

This group tour for Pre-K through 2nd grade includes two programs—Moccasin Tracks in the Native American exhibit and Wagon Wheels in Frontier Georgia. It’s a perfect field trip for young scholars and aligns with the GA Standards for 2nd grade Social Studies and ELA.
